The I-WEB Project of the TEMPUS Programme
TEMPUS (Trans-European Mobility Programme for University Studies) is one of the European Union’s programmes which support the modernisation of higher education in the Partner Countries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean region, mainly through university cooperation projects.
Tempus provides support to consortia of institutions composed mainly of universities or university associations, as well as non-academic partners.
The TEMPUS Programme had been started in Kazakhstan in 1995. Altogether during past period 59 projects have been implemented. The total grant amount is 37.453.994,76 Euro. Among them 23 national and 36 regional projects.
Prior to 2005, the TEMPUS programme was under the coordination of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan
The first phase of the TEMPUS programme (Trans-European mobility programme for university studies) was announced in 1990 as a response to the challenges and needs of modernization of the higher education sector in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe: Poland, Hungary and Czechoslovakia (and later – Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovenia and Albania).
The next phase of the program, known as TEMPUS II, stared in 1994. During the period of its validity more partner countries joined TEMPUS programme: Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Mongolia, and later – Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
In 2000, the program entered its next phase – TEMPUS III. In total, for the period since 1990 to 2006 the TEMPUS programme funded 6500 projects, the implementation of which involved 2,000 universities from Europe and partner countries.
TEMPUS IV (2007-2013) is a new phase of the programme. The results and lessons learned from the previous stages, such as the division of program priorities for the “national” and “regional” were taken into account during the creation of its concept
