Support towards the formulation of a joint position of Central Asian countries is the way to speed up their dialogue and decisions.

The main goal of this project was to assist national experts on climate change and those officials involved in decision-making process from all countries of the region to formulate a joint position of Central Asia to be presented on the COP 15, and thereby, to enhance participatory consultations on the region’s strategy on climate change issues.

Key outputs:

  • A draft working document outlining a joint position was developed and used by the participants as a recourse material
  • A common joint position was developed and adopted at the annual ICSD meeting and presented at the COP 15 later on
  • A common position was published in a number of publications, websites and bulletins, including the quarterly news bulletin issued by CAREC
  • 30 civil servants in total participated in the seminars. Their knowledge and understanding of the latest documents in the negotiation process were increased through discussions and exchange of opinions at the seminars

The joint position addressed the region’s strategic and policy issues in the UNFCCS Climate change negotiations, focused on mitigation, adaptation, technology transfer, finance and formulation of the CA region’s “Shared Vision” after 2012.
